Vosges Haut-Chocolat announced today it was purchasing renewable energy to offset 100 percent of the electricity used to manufacture its unique line of chocolate products. This landmark purchase of renewable energy credits is the XXX (INSERT EPA STATS).

"I am constantly working to improve and expand my mission of bringing peace to the world through chocolate. The Action, the act of not just dreaming but DOING is one of the most important reasons I create. Without a doubt, eco-conscious thinking is becoming a must, and Vosges is currently planning the construction of a platinum level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, sustainable chocolate manufacturing facility. By purchasing renewable energy it is my first step forward in achieving my dream," states Katrina Markoff, owner and chocolatier of Vosges Haut-Chocolat.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat is purchasing 127,376 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy credits from renewable energy facilities including wind farms and biomass facilities. This purchase of renewable energy from domestic sources in rural communities will avoid more than 177,000 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution in 2007. To have the same impact, more than 15 cars would have to be taken off the road, or more than 23 acres of trees would have to be planted, according to statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat creations are made with the finest ingredients from around the world, sourced by owner and Chocolatier Katrina Markoff. Three days following graduation from Vanderbilt University Katrina headed to Paris to pursue her dream of studying the culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu. Then, using her palate as her guide, she embarked on a world tour that commenced with an apprenticeship in Spain under the direction of Ferran Adria and continued eastbound through nine countries. The purple house of Vosges Haut-Chocolat and the concept of Travel the World through Chocolate were inspired by her travels, and seeks to create a luxury chocolate experience while bringing about awareness of the world's cultures by fusing a gamut of indigenous spices, flowers, roots, herbs and liqueurs with premium chocolate. Katrina is the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Bon Appetit Food Artisan of the Year Award and was selected as one of the top 35 Culinary Artists by Food & Wine Magazine.

This purchase of renewable power is made possible by renewable energy credits (RECs). Since it is physically impossible to deliver electricity straight from a renewable energy facility to Vosges Haut-Chocolat, renewable energy credits make purchasing renewable power possible. RECs ensure that the amount of electricity the company uses is replaced onto the power grid with clean, renewable energy. Renewable energy producers sell RECs to better compete with fossil fuels, allowing consumers to choose clean, renewable energy.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat has chosen Colorado-based Renewable Choice Energy as its supplier of RECs. Renewable Choice Energy is a leading national provider that is building the market for clean and renewable sources of energy.
