"I have always loved music…I always listen to music when I write, cook or create. But my true inspiration began when I was at Vanderbilt— I wrote a paper on how rock 'n' roll was inspired by the great gospel and blues artists. African Americans have played such a huge role in influencing the music of the world. When I was in Dallas traveling, I turned on the radio of my rental car and almost every station was playing hip hop. Even just 10 years ago, that wasn't necessarily the case….hip hop had become mainstream. I wanted to illustrate this powerful experience in a box of chocolate— taste, listen, read….Groove."
