At Vosges Haut-Chocolat, we use various types of chocolate from many parts of the world. We purchase all of our chocolate in bulk from suppliers, never directly from cocoa farms. Because we do not purchase cocoa directly from the source, we must rely on our suppliers to remain within the boundaries and guidelines put forth by the International Labor Convention 182 concerning the prohibition and immediate action for the elimination of the worst forms of child labor. We research statements and policies from each supplier and seek out Fair Trade chocolate that has been certified by an international monitoring group to meet certain labor, wage, and environmental standards.

We support all action to eradicate child labor. Since the expiration of the Harkin-Engel Protocol on July 1, 2005, which was a voluntary protocol agreed on by the chocolate industry to eradicate the labor problems, Global Exchange has been called on by the U.S. government to continue the battle against illegal child labor in the cocoa industry. At Vosges Haut-Chocolat, we work to remain informed on the issue, to make responsible decisions based on current information and to partner with those who are working to correct the problem.
