"Red velvet cake is one of my favorite confections…and so I began my quest to make a miniature version in the traditional Southern style. The inspiration began almost 2 years ago at my wedding, when I decided to encase my vibrant, multi-layered, red wedding cake in shards of white chocolate that were silk screened with images of a full moon. We replicated that effect with a slim, cylindrical white chocolate shell adorned with hand-painted white chocolate flowers. Needless to say this petite cake has been a long time in the making, with countless trials to determine the perfect balance of chocolate in the rich red cake and the perfect ratio of cream cheese to butter in the frosting. In the end, we were delighted to have our stunning Red Velvet Mini Party Cake make its debut on Mother's Day! Where else can you find such a hand-crafted cake for mom online?"

Urban legend spins many a tale of the origins of this shockingly red chocolate dessert. According to folklore, the original Red Velvet cake recipe spread in the 1920s after a chic young woman dined at the Waldorf-Astoria, became enamored with the cake's transcendent flavors, and wrote to the chef to request the recipe. He happily obliged, and just a week later the recipe was in her hands—along with a bill for $200. Even today, the cake is sometimes referred to as the "Waldorf-Astoria Cake" or the "$200 Cake."
