"I have always loved music. I always listen to music when I write, cook or create. But my true inspiration began when I was at Vanderbilt, when I wrote a paper on how rock 'n' roll was inspired by the great gospel and blues artists. African Americans have played such a huge role in influencing the music of the world in particular, America's musical genres. One day when I was in Dallas for a visit to Neiman Marcus' headquarters, I turned on the radio of my rental car and almost every station was playing hip hop. Even just 10 years ago that wasn't necessarily the case. Hip hop had become mainstream. I started thinking back to the roots of the people creating this pop music. I wanted to illustrate the incredible journey of African Americans' golden touch on the musical world through a powerful experience with a box of chocolate—taste, listen, read. Groove."
